Infosys Springboard – Makers Lab on Wheels

A Digital Leap Forward for Rural STEM Education

The STEM Lab on Wheels initiative, spearheaded by Infosys Foundation in collaboration with Nanritam’s Education For All (EFA) program, is redefining how students in rural West Bengal engage with science and technology. By transforming a mobile van into a fully functional makers’ lab, the program delivers world-class STEM experiences—including microcontrollers, sensors, automation kits, and other digital tools—directly to students’ doorsteps.

Core Learning and Curriculum Alignment

Phase Key Activities Relevance & Outcomes
Foundational LED blinking, microcontroller programming, breadboard circuit building, and designing traffic light systems. Teachers praised the alignment with physics and mathematics, boosting students' motivation.
Advanced Smart doorbells, sensor automation, energy conversion projects, and virtual simulations using Tinkercad. Students developed strong troubleshooting and practical skills, seeing code produce real-world results.
Innovation (IoT) Advanced IoT applications, including smart wipers, app-controlled cars, and smart irrigation systems. Projects connected technology directly to sectors relevant to rural life, such as agriculture, transportation, and energy.

Connecting to Digital Pathways through Infosys Springboard

This collaboration not only delivers hands-on practical skills but also establishes a pathway for continuous digital learning. During the outreach, students were given the opportunity to register on Infosys Springboard to continue their learning digitally.

The initiative successfully provided students with an advanced level of problem-solving skills, resulting in measurable growth in coding, troubleshooting, collaboration, and creative design. Faculty members praised the high level of excitement and sustained interest shown by participants, with many students proposing their own variations of models, demonstrating early signs of innovation.

The Makers Lab on Wheels is a powerful example of how collaboration between the Infosys Foundation and the Nanritam’s EFA program is making modern STEM accessible, relevant, and inspiring for the next generation of innovators in rural West Bengal.
