Football Coaching Camp at Filix A Step Towards a Footballing Future

by Aritra Dhang, Grade X

Nanritam organised a Football Coaching Camp from March 6 to March 10, 2025, at Filix School of Education, conducted by Mr. Robert Johannes Begerau, a distinguished German football coach and former professional player. This five-day programme was designed to provide students from Grades 6–12 with an opportunity to develop their football skills under expert guidance.

The camp was an important initiative to identify young talent and promote football among students. It improved not only the footballing abilities of many participants but also instilled in them values of teamwork, discipline, and fair play. Supporting the school’s commitment to holistic education, the camp integrated physical development with character-building. Students also learned how to reduce injuries and build endurance through proper training.

The camp sessions ran from 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. each day. The routine began with warm-ups, endurance drills, and short sprints, followed by technical training on ball control, dribbling, inside passing, man-marking, and shooting. Later, students were divided into teams of 5–7 players for small-sided matches, allowing them to apply their training in real game situations. Each session concluded with personalised tips from the coach and a small treat of candies as a reward for their efforts.

However, there were a few challenges. The number of participants was quite high, making it difficult for the coach to give individual attention to everyone. The short duration of the camp also limited the scope of improvement.

Despite these minor drawbacks, the camp had notable outcomes: students developed leadership skills, decision-making abilities, and enhanced football techniques. It also sparked a deeper interest in football among the students, encouraging even more girls to actively participate. For many, it opened up a vision of pursuing football as a career.

The camp left a lasting impact on all participants, bringing them closer to the game and inspiring them to aim higher. Such initiatives, if conducted regularly and for longer durations, can surely uplift Indian football and help India earn recognition as a prominent footballing nation.
